I am a noob to brewing and this soght so to help me anda few others it would be great to see what some of the abbreviations used and what they mean.

I know what LOL, BTW, NSFW, etc means but some of the others are new to me.

You must REALLY be new to computers also because those are computer terms.

They have nothing to do with brewing. ;)

There are very few brewing terms that are abbreviated or have an acronym.

Here's a good reference for you:

http://www.brewguys.com/BrewSchool/Lexicon/lexicon.html

But in the meantime here are more than you'll probably use:

AAU - Alpha Acid Units - measurement of hop bitterness.

ABV - % of alcohol by volume.

ABW - % of alcohol by weight.

AG - All Grain, -er.

DME - Dry Malt Extract

DMS - Dimethyl Sulfide - one of the many sulfur odors/flavors produced by yeasts.

FG - Final Gravity.

IBU - International Bittering Unit - another more precise measurement of the hop AAs utilization.

IM - Irish Moss - a clarifier.

LHBS - Local Home Brew Store

LME - Liquid Malt Extract

MD - Malto Dextrin - A non-fermentable sugar used to add body to a watery brew.

OG - Original Gravity.
