Hi. Have a 1.068 winter warmer extract brew from NB. They say to secondary it for 2 to 4 weeks after a 1 to 2 week primary. I've had it in the primary for 4 weeks (my normal procedure is primary for 3-4 weeks then package) and want to just keg and prime for secondary. Any downside to priming and secondary-ing at the same time?

Depends on the kit and the reason for using a secondary. Many brewers skip the step of using a secondary unless they are adding adjunct ingredients like twigs, fruit or nuts or are trying to clarify the beer a little better (bright tank). Extract beers should be fine sitting in the primary on the yeast the full six weeks.

So, yeah. Let it sit in your primary another two weeks and rack it to your keg for priming. No worries.

Ok. That's cool. What are the thoughts around priming while in "secondary? In other words does adding the sugar in the secondary vessel of a keg undermine what needs to happen during the secondary process?
