I just got done brewing a clone kit from AHS, Smithwicks ale, AG. I dont normally get kits (I love making my own recipes) but when in Ireland I loved this beer and wanted to make it for St. Patty's day this year, and my own recipes have always fallen short.
Mashed like normal, and I go to sparge and wait....whats this? It's a nice, rich GOLD wort. Unless I am really off in my memory, Smithwicks was a deep copper/red. Has anyone else had this experience with this kit? I guess I should have been wary because there was no roasted barley in the grist, just 60 and 90 crystal, but I didn't even think about it. Not really mad, AHS is a great place, just venting a little
(I have no doubt this will taste great)

Yeah Smithwick's is a darker ale, so it defintiely should not be golden! Like you said, regardless, it will taste great, but that does seem to be a let down, especially for St. Patty's day.

This is how it'd go:
(You) Hey guys ready for some great Smithwick's homebrew?...
(Them) Yeah!... Why is it golden and not dark?..
(You) ****in AHS, my bad!

Add some green food coloring, no one will notice.:ban:

Anyhow, I have my St. Patty's day stout fermenting away now. It just finished its first week in the fermenter, and it isn't golden.;)

Have a great March 17th!:mug:
