HUGE Oxygen Cylinders

Hi everyone!

I recently purchased some O2 cylinders from a local fire department. They used these to fill the smaller "on board" tanks. They have a current inspection, good through 4/12.

They are roughly 5' tall at the valve, and 7" in diameter..I believe the trade size is 300 cubic feet.

I am not sure, but my neighbor said that they can be used for CO2 if repainted....Don't take my word for this.

I will have pictures tomorrow.

I am asking $100 each, and have 4 available.

These are a little dangerous at that size for either O2 or CO2 in a house. It would be great for small commercial operation though.

Agreed, but one can argue that with proper precautions they would be safe.

You sure can't throw 'em around...lol I would, without a doubt, chain it up.

I have the ones I am keeping in my outbuilding. I would not have an issue storing them in the basement, though.


Thanks for the feedback. The point is well taken, and I'll try my best to explain proper storage to any buyer(s) that I may have.

BTW, I am always open to trade for some equipment....

Indiana Oxygen, the place that I go to, traded me a 5lb CO2 tank for a 20 cubic foot (I think) O2 tank with no problems. They appear to be the same size, just rated for the different gases. So it's probably an option.

Are you sure they aren't compressed air cylinders from a cascade system for refilling Scott or MSA SCBA bottles? When I was a volunteer fireman it scared the chit out of me when it was my turn to refill the scott bottles. One false move and kaboom.

No, they are green, and have a "contents: pure oxygen" label on them. They used them to fill the smaller medical o2 bottles...

I am SCUBA certified...if they were compressed air tanks, I would be keeping them for a future use....LOL
