Dumb conical Question

So...to start the second stage of fermentation with carboys you would rack from one carboy to another. If you're using a conical you would just drop the yeast out the bottom to start the secondary fermentation?
 
Yeah correct, but you are technically not starting a fermentation. Rather you are letting the beer finish fermenting and cleaning up. Many of us don't bother with secondary anymore and just leave in primary.
 
Yep. There really is no "second stage" of fermentation. The primary is where all the fermentation should take place. The secondary is where the... sitting and doing nothing happens (clearing the beer). You can do both in the same container. Conicals make that easy.
