Ok - just bottled up a 15 gal batch of Apfelwein, and for the first time used wine bottles and corked things up. Do I need to do anything special with the bottles, like storing them on their sides?

Not really- but you can, to keep the cork moist. My reading leads me to believe that even upright the corks are moist enough, due to bottle being sealed. I suggest leaving them upright for at least 3 days or so, for the cork to uncompress (is that a word?) and make sure the bottle is sealed. Then it can be laid on its side if you want.

Is carbonation involved here?

The reason I asked is I've heard wine bottles aren't made for carbing pressures, whereas champagne bottles are.

Nope - this batch was bottled still. I'm still not sure how I like it better - still or carbed......:drunk:
