I just got a SS ball valve and bulkhead fitting for my kettle and I'm wondering if I should use a wort pick up tube inside to siphon the last bit of wort from the bottom of the kettle. Until now I've been pouring the wort from my kettle to a bottling bucket with a valve, whirlpooling, and running off to my chiller. Using the bottling bucket I don't pick up any trub. Will this be a problem in the kettle...even if I whirlpool? Is it worth getting the last bit of wort even if you get the trub?

Depends on how much you're missing under the valve. My kettle leaves almost 3 gallons below the valve, so I had to put a dip tube in.

Now it leaves about a quart, along with most of the hop debris, behind.
