In the spirit of fall, I'm going to go for my first Pumpkin (..pie) Ale. Being the busy college student that I am, I'm going to go for a kit (The AHS, to be exact, unless anyone can recommend me something better). I'm torn between whether or not to get some pumpkin (canned or not) to add however. My understanding is...it doesn't contribute much, except for hassle and a loss of beer. What has your experience with using the pumpkin to mash been? Is it worth adding? Does it contribute a beautiful orange color? Would using LME or DME make a difference in making that color show?

I've seen the large pumpkin ale threads, but haven't found the definitive satisfactory answers I've been looking for yet.

Thoughts and experiences appreciated!
