So at the end of Sept a LONG 12 month deployment will be over and the task of getting the pipeline full will begin. Kezzer needs built, and unpacking of all the "I really need this" stuff (said to fiancée and myself). Got a long list of HB from all the great people here that needs to be brewed up. Wedding to attend (my own) and Honeymoon to go on.

With it all going down in a 4 week timeframe what would be a good list of beers to get acquainted with?
Really want to try:
Heady Topper
Piney
Dragons Milk
Dirty Bastard
Bot

What more do I need to add to the list?
I'll check out my local SPECS in TX and see what all I can find.

There are also some classics to consider, if you aren't already familiar with them:

  • Guinness Stout
  • Pilsner Urquell
  • Anchor Steam and Anchor Liberty Ale
  • Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
  • Sam Adams Boston Lager
  • Bass Ale
  • Newcastle Brown Ale
  • Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout and Nut Brown Ale
  • MacEwan's Scotch Ale
  • Hacker-Pschorr Hefeweizen
  • Spaten Premium (Helles), Dunkel, and Oktoberfest ur-Marzen (though you probably can't get the latter until Fall)
  • Paulaner Salvator doppelbock (you're unlikely to find it at this time of year, though)
  • DAB Original
  • Chimay (all three of their styles, if you can swing it - be sure to decant, as they are all bottle conditioned)
  • Saison Dupont
  • Orval
  • Duvel

I'm sure there are others that I've missed; if any come to me later, I'll add them.

I found two of the beers I'll list at Aldi's-
Monterrey-from Guatamala city,Guatamala,cervesa that isn't skunked
Wernesgruner pils,German pils that again isn't skunked in brown bottles with a crest surrounded by hop bines on the neck. Great to bottle hb in.
Chimay blue label-great trappist ale
Sierra Nevada pale ale,turbo
Paulaner Salvator doppel bock I love this one
Paulaner Hefeweissen
Sam Adam's Latitude 48 IPA
Franziskaner Weissebeir-very clean non-estery flavor
Hoppin' Frog's Turbo Shandy & Hoppin to Heaven IPA-from Akron,OH
Great Lakes Commodore Perry IPA
Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale-in cans no less
Left Hand Brewing's Milk stout & nitro stout-like iced coffee with that roasty stout thing on the back. Nitro stout adds chocolate like flavors to that.

These beers are good?! I've seen then before but never tried them, I'll have to check them out, thanks.

Yeah,I was surprised at the flavor when I drank the first ones from the 6'rs they have. My son told me the other day they were out of the Wernesgruner, but had this Finnish one. Haven't tried that yet. I liked the wernesgruner also for the cool bottles with the crest & hop bines on the neck. gotta get more of those. The Monterrey was a clear bottle. Coming from farther away then the Mexican cervesas was all the more amazing that they tasted better.

I was going to list a bunch of the "classics", but Schol-R-lea beat me to it. I will add Stone IPA and Arrogant Bastard, Gulden Draak, Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, Ayinger Celebrator, and pretty much all the Trappist ales.

Soooooo many good beers listed!

As many have said, Dales Pale Ale! Its a must!

Good call on the Celebrator, Not only my favorite doppel, but you get a free christmas tree ornament as well.

As for classics, I must chime in for Duchess De Bourgogne. Fantastic example of the style.

Why no Abyss people?

If you can trade for them (only sold on a special release basis here in Tampa Bay):

Cigar City Hunapu
Cycle Brewing RareDos

Both outstanding stouts! The breweries sell them for $20-25 a bomber, but they typically go for $60-80 a bottle on the beerhead market :)

Haha it won't "keep up." You'll be told you drink too much or are a "beer nerd."
