The American Red Ale Kit I got from AHS, was by far the best beer I have brewed so far. I 'm going to have a batch of that going conituously for a while.
 
I heard that if you add a very small amount of black patent (2 ounces) then it gives the batch a distinctive red hue. Ive not tried this myself yet but it might be something I that I will experiment with.
 
My my, I can't believe the options that are possible.
I think I am going to have a go with the recipe from Ed although the blood was certainly a contender. (just need to find a donor first)
