Anybody who's been in chat knows I got an adult male labrador retreiver about two months ago from an animal shelter. Great dog, but he eats EVERYTHING. I caught him eating pebbles a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, he got a terrible case of colitis and was very sick. Then he seemed to be better, but took a turn for the worse. Well, he seems much better today and is eating and eliminating and playing! Here we are a few minutes ago out in the yard: (He looks tiny in this picture, while I look huge, but I think it's the camera angle- he's about 70 pounds!)

Please- if you are considering a dog or a cat of any type, consider an animal shelter or breed rescue center. He really has been healthy and loving and active. He's an awesome dog!

What a good lookin' fella! Glad he's feeling better, too.

And I wholeheartedly agree with your last statement about adoption from a shelter. One of mine, in fact, looks a whole lot like your guy. But Goodman's about 105# and not full-blooded. We call him "the new LabraMoose breed." He was about 20 days from destruction when I got him.

Here's a pic of both my good boys:

Glad to hear it! It's such a scary time when a member of the family is sick. He looks really happy now.

+1 for adopting. We adopted our Border Collie/Aussie mix a year ago and he's the best! Thinks he's a 45 pound lapdog, but we still love him. :)

Great advice on shelter dogs, and I'm glad your puppy is feeling better!

A couple of years ago our youngest dog got very sick and almost passed away from copper storage disease. Luckily we caught it soon enough and she's doing great. What I learned from that was enjoy as much time with your pets as you can, because anything can happen.

I got my dog from the shelter, he is the best dog ever! but like most shelter dogs he does have problems my least favorite is eating the trash. The other day he ate an entire bag of potato chips, and by entire bag I mean bag and all, I got home to find little silver shreds spread all over the floor.

+1 on the shelter or a rescue organization.

-1 for the doggie porn ;)

Glad he'd doing better Yooper.

Yooper! Your dog is naked and his equipment is flopping all over the place. You can even see his empty nut satchel!

Please put some pants on that guy

.

+1 again on the shelter dogs. It's amazing how many dogs in shelters are absolutely wonderful but just need good loving homes. Some people are hesitant to get a dog from a shelter, but I've heard of just as many problems with dogs from breeders than from shelters, if not more. I got my black lab from a shelter, and when I got her, she wouldn't even go up the stairs to my apartment, now, she's not very shy at all, going up to everyone and getting into everything.

Cool dog.

I've just started volunteer work at the shelter I take the dogs for walks.
There are some really nice dogs. If I didn't already have two then I'd of taken a few more.
