Hey Guys,

Has anyone ever tried adding liquid smoke to their beer to get a nice smokey flavour through it?

I know the traditional thing to do is to smoke the grain but wondered if anyone had tried the liquid smoke route?

I have and it works... it's not as rounded of a flavor as smoked malt. Wrights liquid smoke seems about the best, no preservatives just smoke water.

been a long time and don't remember how much, But charlie Papazian makes reference to it in his joy of home brewing book. (i'd look it up but I'm unpacking from a move and have now idea where the book is.)

Oh wow...yea good idea...I would do test batchs first...break down a 5 gallon carboy into 2 to 3 seperate secondarys and make sure u keep track on how much u add per...that stuff goes a long way...
