Effects of Brown Sugar used in Beer?

What taste and/or body effects do you normally get when you brew with brown sugar? And how much should be used to get the result on a 5 gallon batch?

I have been brewing for less than a year and would like to expand on my ingredient selection, so I am just trying to get a feel for what this sugar would do to the beer before trying it out and not liking the result. ;)
 
Depends on the type of brown sugar. Most of them are just white sugar with a little bit of molasses. So, no body + cidery + a little molasses. If I want a molasses note in an ale, I'd rather just use it straight.
