Ok, I was planning on brewing my first AG tomorrow but in light of not having my full water report back from my city yet, I have decided to hold off. I don't want to screw up the first batch.

Here is what I have from the City so far. I'm still prodding to get the rest.

Alkalinity (mg/l) 152
Hardness Total (mg/l) 260.9
pH 7.72
Sodium (mg/l) 97.7
Sulfate (mg/l) 75
Total dissolved solids (mg/l) 546

Since I've just begun really studying water's effect on beer, I'm not entirely sure how to use this info.

Anyone have any quick insight?

Brew the batch.

Receive complete report.

Brew identical batch making whatever corrections are called for.

Drink and compare.

I brew AG using untreated tap water (with all its chlorine and chlorimites and vegimite still intact). Is there a difference? I am positive. But it still makes beer, and you would learn alot by comparing the two products and then could post and describe how your water chemistry corrections improved your beer.

Thanks, chefmike. I'm just afraid it will have that harshness I keep reading about.

Do you take pH readings of your mash?
