OK, on another board there was some discussions about Beach Bum Ale by Anheiser Busch. Its a new seasonal by AB, and its actually a pretty decent blonde ale. I posed the question of formulating a recipe.

Now, what i learned of the AB site was the following:

-Blonde Ale
-5.7%ABV
-Pale and Caramel Malts
-Alsace, Hallertau, and Cascade Hops

So, here is my first attempt...
Ingredients

Amount Item Type % or IBU
3.25 lb Extra Light Dry Extract (3.0 SRM) Dry Extract 40.6 %
4.00 lb Pale Liquid Extract (8.0 SRM) Extract 50.0 %
0.75 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 20L (20.0 SRM) Grain 9.4 %
1.00 oz Strisslespalt [4.00%] (60 min) Hops 12.2 IBU
1.00 oz Hallertauer [4.80%] (30 min) Hops 7.4 IBU
1.00 oz Cascade [5.50%] (10 min) Hops 3.3 IBU
1 Pkgs American Ale (Wyeast Labs #1056) Yeast-Ale

Feel free to correct/change/laugh...I didn't get any real feedback on the other baord, so i thought I would try here.

Doesn't look like an "Indian" pale ale to me. :p

I'll look at this recipe more in a little while and consider what you've done and how I remember it tasting. It was a pretty decent beer, actually.

Yeah, I remember laughing at that. Not only did he call it Indian...its about as far removed from an IPA as you can get. :D

Any help would be benificial. I am headed to the LHBS this weekend and want to pick up ingredients for this and my VBIP.

Ok, based on some other feedback and some recall, I made some tweaks. Even though the three different hops are used, not pops out. So, my changes are a late add of the bulk of the extract (~25min) for color.....and a blend of the three hops to be added at 60/20/5min. Here is my final recipe, to be brewed possibly next week.

Hmm, I think your going to get a good beer. Never heard of this beer but your recipe looks nice. AB having a 5.7% ABV beer?? Come-on!!

I like your thinking on the hop additions...and 60/20/5 is a good combo?

I think it will work pretty well. I am intrigued as this will be my first ever recipe from scratch. I think the 60/20/5 hop schedule will give a nice balance, giving the IBU's I want and a smooth aroma. I will report out after i make this one.

A also plan on using the cake form this to kick-start my Bourbon Vanilla Imperial Porter.
