First Batch had slight carb after first week. After second week first batch has nice head and carb.

Second Batch after just under first week has slight shhhhhh sound when opened but very little carb taste and no head.

Normal?

Curious.

Of course two different beers.

Also, if you are using soap for your initial bottle cleaning be absolutely sure to get all the soap off. Soap kills head retention.

Agree with "different beers, different ingredients..."

Your carbonation is going to be mainly based on the amount of priming fermentables that you put in your bottle.

If you have yeast in suspension--which it would be very hard not to--they will eventually eat those fermentables and generate a pretty predictable amount of CO2. That will be forced into solution.

If you have a "shhh" they're eating those starches. It may be a matter of time... but your final carbonation will be fine. The level will depend on what you put in to feed the yeast.
