Help! where do I start....?

I am have been on numerous websites checking out the basics in brewing equipment.

Most of them look like a homemade meth lab, is this what you all are using, or is there a better setup to go with?

I guess I need some input on what the easiest home kit would be, and then I have questions on what the best wheat beer recipe/kit would be?
