For the next 10 days, Philadelphia will be holding their annual beer week. Tastings and pubcrawls and dinners, oh my! Is anyone else going at some point?

i'm going to the unrelated AC beer fest on saturday. likely to be carnage.

i was maybe going to go to the homebrew + dogfish thing but $45 just seems like a hell of a lot of cash, plus i'll prolly be in new york for work on monday...

I think I'm going to the Celebration of the Suds now! That looks like so much fun. Thanks for mentioning it. :mug: The SWMBO is excited about it as well as we can hit up the nightlife after the afternoon session on Saturday.

last year me and my drinking buddy hit the afternoon session, then a couple of hours in the irish pub, then back for the evening session. was climbing over the barriers on the speedline on the way home. grim stuff.

this years it's going to be full-on in the afternoon, then a couple of pints in the irish, then back home.

if you're going down there from philly, deffo let the train take the strain - the beer fest is right in the convention center which is attached to the train station. and there are free shuttles from there to the casinos if you feel like trying your luck afterwards!

Did you go? We went yesterday afternoon and aside from the chaos getting in - we were there at noon but didn't get inside till about 1:15 i thought it was a good one. plenty of quality beer on offer - was loving the youngs double chocolate stout, i have to have a go at a clone, i tihnk

If anyone was at the South Philly Taproom Tuesday, I was the skinny dude in the Troegs workshirt. The firkin of Flying Mouflan we had was damn tasty. The cool people at the SPTR also had all of my favorite Troegs seasonals on (Nugget and Elf)...it was a good time. I would've liked to get to more events, but living two hours away in Harrisburg puts a damper on things.

Belgian Chocolate Stout, you say? Magic Hat, you say? I may have to locate some of that. It sounds like a heavenly concoction.

It certainly was. Not as smooth as I would have liked, but definitely one of the stronger ranked chocolate stouts I've had.
And don't worry about not getting out to many events. I live in the Philly area and I wasn't able to make a dent out of all the plans I had. Simply due to time constraints and money.

I hear ya! Many of the events that I wanted to attend started in the late afternoon/early evening during the week and by the time I got out of work and made my way over to the establishment, the brewery reps were gone (like narrowly missing meeting Tomme Arthur and John Maier) but at least the beer was still flowing. Had plenty of great beer and enjoyed the week.

I didnt get to go to any of the major events I wanted to, but I did happen into one of my own. My Father runs a machine shop in Kensington, and has had a working relationship with Bill Barton for Philadelphia Brewing for some time, and the brewery is across the street from the brewery. Philadelphia Brewing is a new version of the old name. Bill was a co-owner of Yards before they parted ways about a year or two ago. Yards kept the name and the recipies, and Bill kept the brewery and the staff. For years my Dad has told me to come by the shop and he would take me over to meet Bill and see the joint. Last week I was on my way down 95 and decided to stop by. We walked into the brewery and into Bill's office, and he dropped everything to give us a tour of the place. Very cool! then he offered for us to sit down in the tap room for few.

If you haven't had any of Philly Brewing's beers, please do yourself a fovor and do so. THe Kenzinger is a perfect session beer, the New Bold IPA is very nice, and i got to have the Joe Porter, which was made with Peruvian Coffee beans grown locally. I found it to be similar to the flying fish expresso porter, but I thought it finished with a little more zip. Awesome!

One of the cool things about them is they distribute on their own, so you can usually get their beer for a few bucks cheaper the comperable beer because there is no markup from the Origlio's of the world.

This made a great Philly Beer week for me. :rockin:
