So I just brewed a high gravity red ale and for the first time reused yeast I had collected from a previous batch. I collected the yeast after secondary, and did not wash it in any way. I used a yeast starter and had solid fermentation with in 6 hours and high krausen early the second day. The thing is, I noticed something I have never seen before in the starter and in the fermenter. Little globs of yeast were leaping from the bottom of the container and hanging at the top of the beer, they would then fall and it would happen again near the same area. Is this normal yeast activity, or do I have some sort of mutant craziness abrewin? Fermentation is close to the end and it is still happening just not as much.
