pitching on a cake?

what is the maximum amount of times a cake can be repitched. started light
and am moving darker. have repitched 2x, can i keep going? keeping hops and grains somewhat similar.

I've gone 3x in order to step up a starter but I believe that's the limit before the strain starts to mutate. But this is mute if you wash.

It's normal to pitch a bigger beer onto a cake.

You wouldn't do a dark hoppy beer then pitch a light lager on it. I've read that after 3 brews you are pushing it.

I've done 4 brews on a single cake before (WLP400) and had good results.
