A bit ago I bought a 4# can of Ironmaster Porter extract.....

I only have 2.5 gallon carboys.....

So, I added the ENTIRE can, water and Wyeast 1098 to make a half batch....nothing else.....thass'it.

I let it ferment out for 6 weeks.

Today I tasted it.

Absolutely fantastic! Deep, malty almost smoky flavor with maybe a hint of chocolate!

Friday I am going to carb it up!

Next week I am gonna do the same thing with a Brown Ale!

Every now and then I get the urge to go 'slumming' a bit by using canned beer kits. I suspect many of them have potential if you do things like this, e.g., skip the sugar, swap yeast, make a smaller batch, etc.

Fresh extract makes good beer. Making it the way you did means more body and more concentrated caramels.
