I'm new to batch sparging. I've done about 5 batches so far. I've got all the calculations for water down but have seen varying opinions on whether or not to wait after adding my mash out or sparge water.

If I need to add mash out water to my first runnings at the end of mashing to reach my goal first running volume do I stir then wait 10 minutes and then vorlauf and run off?

If my strike water meets my requirements for first running volume do I just run off and then wait 10 minutes after adding my sparge water?

Do I even need to wait 10 minutes at all?

Today I got sidetracked and added my mash out water stirred and pretty much immediately ran it off. Then I added my sparge water stirred and immediately ran it off. Does anyone frequently do this or is it pretty much standard to wait?

Just try to get a feel for what everyone else is doing.

I do a 10 minute re circulation after I stir for about 1 minute and have above average efficiency.

If you can not recirc I would advise a good long stir then a wait, then a vorlauf.

Cheers
