Gumball Head questions.

There was a post about this before, but I figured that nobody would answer a year old thread so these are my questions.

One, has anyone tried a clone of this using an extract?
Two, is it possible to first wort hop using an extract recipe?

I've never heard of gumball head, but if you have an all grain recipe someone can convert it to extract for you.

Yes you can first wort hop with extract. Just steep the hops along with the adjunct grains in the 150º water and you'll be set.


EDIT: Oh, it looks like you already asked this question in the year old thread anyways. I'll see what I can do to convert it in that thread.

Is there a formula for converting AG to extract? I would love to know how.

kennywoodbrew.com has a kit that sounds alot like gumball. They describe it as an american wheat ale with a lot of amirillo hops. Have not brewed it but it sure sounds good.

All Grain Recipe - Gumball Head Wheat ::: 1.052/1.012 (6 Gal)
Grain Bill (70% Efficiency assumed)
6 lbs. - Wheat Malt
5 lbs. - 2-Row Pale Malt
1 lb. - Caravienne Malt

Hop Schedule (27 IBU)
1/4 oz. - Amarillo - First Wort Hop
1/4 oz. - Amarillo - 60 min.
1/2 oz. - Amarillo - 15 min.
1.25 oz. - Amarillo - 5 min.
1 oz. - Amarillo - 1 min.
1.5 oz. - Amarillo - Dry Hop

Yeast
White Labs California Ale Yeast (WLP001) - 1800 ml starter

Mash/Sparge/Boil
Mash at 153° for 60 min.
Sparge as usual
Cool and ferment at 68° to 70°

Notes
Several people have brewed this and reported good results.

Gumball is a true summer time beer (atleast I think so )
It has a hints of lemon in a good way,,,,it is on the list to brew
I have had it two or three times now and it is JUST A GREAT BEER
I think I am going to have it as my house beer instead of Bells Two Hearted
Not that I dont like bells I have made 5 or 6 batches and wanting to more on the something a little lighter so my wife can enjoy what I make
B2H is to strong on the pallet for her
She's a BLight drinker and now I am trying to take her to the DARK side LOL
But she does like Octoberfest and thats on the list

this beer is best fresh draft

alpha kings pale ale is good also...
