Yeast nutrient in starter

I have been doing starters for a while but I recently came across an ale yeast starter recipe that called for yeast nutrient in the starter. Does anyone out here use it and is there an appreciable difference between using yeast nutrient and not using yeast nutrient?
 
I use it but not in the starter. I know people that do in small quantities but dont think it is necessary. I just put a dash into the last 15 of the boil.
