Do I need to use the blowoff tube if I am using a 6.5 primary, or can I just use the airlock and be safe?

Some people always use a blow off on their primary, just to be on the safe side. It saves you from having to scramble and rig one up if the yeast party decides it wants to shoot off fireworks. i usually start with an airlock and keep a close eye on it for a couple of days. If the lock starts clogging, I will rig a blow off.

blow off tube means getting a good night sleep, not having to worry about things that explode in the night!

Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. In this case, I am glad that I used one. I usually use one for every brew. It gives me peace of mind.
