Are these types essentially the same?? If not what are their differences. Not a big wheat/wit/hefe fan so never really got into the styles. My son likes 'em so we are brewing BM's blue moon clone this weekend. Thanks for your replies. Charlie
 
They are the same in that they are all wheat based beers. The big difference is the yeast used in each has different chatacteristics and a wit usualy has spice additions.

wit is a spiced belgian-styled beer with belgian yeast.

hefeweizen is an unfiltered german-style wheat beer made with hefeweizen yeast.

"wheat" is a generic term for any beer made with wheat malt.

"weizen" is more of the prior.

For some added background:
Wit is the Dutch/Flemish word for White.

Weizen is the German word for wheat.

Hefe is the German word for yeast.
