Nottingham is a great yeast for many styles. Good attenuation and flocculation.
You might be confused by the concept of yeast starters though. A yeast starter refers to the process of growing more yeast to reach the desired pitching rate for a beer. Not that one strain is used before other strains (although this approach can be used for high ABV beers when bottle conditioning).
As a dry yeast, a starter is not necessary for Notty, although you should rehydrate it according to the package directions.
