Cornelius Keg Stains

I have a couple of 10g kegs that have some very stubborn stains on the inside. I've used oxyclean, ecolox, scrubbed with hot soapy water, but nothing works. It's sort of a hard gummy substance that just won't let go.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

So it's actually a surface gum or is it actually the stainless?

Tough call. It's a hard brown substance that I think is on top of the stainless steel. I initially thought it might be rust or corrosion, but I think it's something stuck to the stainless steel surface.

maybe something acid based? sounds like all the cleaners you've used have been basic

Try Bar Keepers Friend. Thick paste and let it set for a while. It's Oxalic acid.

There is also PBW. Best to avoid any of the really nasty acids if you can.

If BKF can't move it, try some Goof-Off.

I had a similar issue. Used double quantity PBW - did nothing. Poured in some Sanstar and used a non-scratch pad, rinsed. Assembled and sterilized. Now I wonder if I missed another keg with the same problem. Need a bore scope to go down the dip tube.
