How cold can a deep freeze get?

How cold can you get your average deep freeze if you were using an external controller? I'm curious how far down you can get it before you're starting to put undue wear on the compressor.

right. if you were to do so, what could you theoretically get it to and still have reasonable life expectancy of the unit?
 
Running it any colder than advertised would probably shorten the life of the unit by quite a bit. You'd be better off searching on the actual models/parts in question to see how they rate.
 
If you run the compressor continuosly the lowest you'll get is about -14F. Doing this occasionally is probably ok as it's a feature on some models (Fast Freeze).

Yeah, even my good refrigerator has a feature like that called "Speed Ice". Drops the freezer down to 6 below so it can turn out batches of ice faster. It's pretty handy when we use up all the ice for a cooler or something. Makes ice cream a real ***** to scoop, though....
