I was toldby a fellow brewer that you can replace the normal factory element on your electric stove with a more high performance one.
He explained to me that the better ones have hardly any space between the coils. This allows it to heat up faster and hotter. He said he bougt one for like 27$ .
Anyone know if there are such coils out there and if so, where would be the best place to get a good price on one?>
thanks

I replaced one of the large diameter coils on my electric stove with 1800 watt coil that I got at Ace hardware. I have seen them at other hardware stores and even walmart sense. It shortened the time to reach a boil quite a bit. I was told that there are 2200 watt coils that can be special ordered but I've been happy with the improvement the 1800 watt made. I paid under $20 for it.

What is the normal wattage for stove coils?
Do the higher wattage ones have tighter coils?
