Is an Imperial Oatmeal Stout a "Specialty Beer" or a "Russian Imperial Stout" ? For the record I tested mine side by side with Avery's The Czar and apart from my IOS having less aging character, it was pretty similar in body/alcohol/hoppiness.

I'm entering mine in both, just because I don't think it will do well up against a chipotle hefeweizen or some other random combo, but where should and IOS be put?

If oatmeal does play a big part in the flavor/mouthfeel/etc of the beer, but it still exhibits characteristics of an Imperial, I'd almost say you'd get docked if you entered it in either, and you might do better to enter it as specialty. That said, you'd probably be safest entering it as an RIS.

Then it'd be funny to see which of your entries did better :)

(Judging is a subjective process, so it's quite likely they'd be a few points apart)
