over carbonated

I bottled a German Altbier about two weeks ago and since then have tried opening a couple here and there just to see how they were coming along and both become super carbonated. when i open the bottle it literally comes gushing out. i was wondering what could be a possible cause for this and if letting them sit longer would help do decrease that or what. thank you.
 
Every time I've had gushers it was because I improperly sanatized something. Chances are if they are gushers then time really wont help a whole lot. This batch may be one of those live and learn batches.
