good idea/ bad idea: percolating mash tun experiment

here is the theory:
making my keggle mt into a percolating recirculation
it has worked with coffee for years and is simple to achieve

the plan:
taking the top from the keg and essentially turning the dip tube over so it comes out the top and welding it.
then a simple 1/2-3/4 inch whole drilled into the top of the sanke keg lid i.e. perc base.
at the top of the dip tube a simple splatter screen 12" (skillet style) with a whole cut int he middle and mounted to the dip tube, to diffuse
the liquid as it returns into the grain.
of course there would be a lid on the mt to prevent over splatter.
2 piece false bottom cut tightly around the tube

so.. good idea / bad idea

In order to get it to perc, it's got to boil right? You'd overheat the mash before it circulated once. That's my guess.

Kind of like what they do http://www.speidels-braumeister.de/ , if I am understanding what your after. You'd want to add a pump to avoid what Bobby M is talking about.

yeah as far as i know coffee pots do not boil to perk,
with the dome directly over the burner the hot water is pushed through without boil
well its worth a shot XD
I have another wacky idea also but that is a later post
