I'm making a ale and its been fermenting for about 9 days. I'm not planing on doing secondary ferm so how long should I leave it in primary fermentor to achieve a good brew?

Once it's done fermenting, it'll start to clear. When you take a sample, if the beer has been at its final gravity for at least three days and if it's clear (or starting to clear pretty well), it's fine to bottle it.

Sometimes that's in 10 days, sometimes longer, depending on many factors like yeast strain and temperature.

A lot of people that use primary only just leave it alone for 2-3 weeks to be safe before even taking readings and thinking of bottling. Up to you.
