I tried taking the lid thingie out and sticking a paper towel down in it, but 3 saturated paper towels later, it's still not showing any sign of being close to empty. Any suggestions?

Turkey baster? If it can't get down in there, you can attach some tubing to the end of the baster and suck it out.

SiPhonEiphon it if you have a spare hose.

Run the rinse only cycle a **** load of times (assumes it's close to empty).

Any particular reason why you need to do this for bottling?

You can also unscrew the inside of the dishwasher door. We had to do it once due to calcium buildup and it only takes a few minutes. You might be surprised at how much crap gets behind the door panel. But while you are in there, you will have access to the entire jet-dry reservoir.

I just turn the dispenser setting down to minimum (it has 5) and go ahead and sanitize the bottles. Seems to work OK.
