usually not. the beer already has alcohol in it and the hops act as an antiseptic. At least this is what I have read. I'm currently dryhopping an American amber ale(for no particular style, just for personal preference) and a westcoast IPA. I am still learning about dry hopping, the flavor and aroma increase of both tells me I'm on the right track. good luck with yours.
 
hops are antiseptic to start with.

if you use a hop bag to dry hop, sanitize the empty bag first, then dry hop.
