beginner hop varieties?

Never grown hops before. Which variety do u recommend?

Go with whatever variety is most prevalent in the types of beers that you'll want to brew. No sense growing something that you'll never want to use in your own beer.

Take a look through some recipes that you think you're going to brew, figure out what varieties they call for, and see if you can make a short list that way.

If the varieties are all over the map, consider looking at a substitution chart to see if you find a variety that will cover you for a few different recipes.

Jambo is right on.... If you are doing 2 varieties and like IPAs, do your favorite flavor/aroma hop and a strong bittering hop.

I also think you want to check which varieties do well in your area. For example, many home hops growers in the Midwest seem to have great success with Cascades - which grew very well for me last summer, in their first year.

Pappers is right on - Cascade is probably one of the best all around hops for ease of growing and range of brews.
