The internet is being a total behotch to me lately. I keep getting these "this page cannot be found" pages. Sometimes they come up and I just refresh and the normal page pops up. Most of the time they refuse to come up. It happens all of the time on HBT. For instance, this happens everytime I try to open the 9-9-9 Barleywine page. However, I can access page 3 of the thread. ????? WTF? Someone with some computer knowledge help me! I'm running Internet Explorer.:(

nobody knows anything about this? someone jsut tell me to get a different browser or something!!!! damnit it sucks

+1 on the Firefox. I only use IE to pay my property tax because the local gov't decided they don't want to make their systems compatible with anything else.

As far as what's causing your issues, I'm at a loss. Maybe you have some sort of add or script blocker running that doesn't like the coding for something on the pages? Probably talking out my a$$ here. :D

Get Firefox and see if they work then. If not and you don't like it, you can always uninstall it.

Could be a DNS problem. Try clearing out your cache, history, cookies, all that stuff that references to the porn you've been downloading :D and try it again.

Try repairing your connection. Right click on the icon down by your clock for your network connection and then click "repair". That'll clear your DNS and ARP caches. Not a gaurantee, but it might help.

Thanks guys, I'm doing all of those things right now! Hopefully my porn perusing wont be hindered!!! :D

Assuming you are on XP, go to Start -> Run and type in cmd and hit [OK]. At the command prompt enter ipconfig and hit [Enter]. Note the gateway IP, then at the prompt type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -t (enter your gateway instead of the x's). Then let that run for a few minutes, and pay attention to anything that times out. After a few minutes hit [Ctrl]+[C] to stop it.

If you see timeouts there, the problem is with your internet connection. If you see no timeouts then type ping google.com -t and let that run for a few minutes. After a few minutes hit [Ctrl]+[C] to stop it again.

If you see timeouts there you can run tracert google.com from the command prompt to see where the problem lies, if it is an internet connection issue. If you see no timeouts on either test then the problem is most likely local to your PC and I would start it in safemode with network support to see of that resolves the issue. If it does, then you need to track down which software on your PC is causing it.

Ok Mozzilla didnt really help things at all. Same pages now jsut come up blank in Firefox. I'll try Tenchiro's idea. BRB.

it says that it couldnt clear the DNS chache! I dont know what that means.

Windows caches DNS entries to make browsing a bit quicker and to eliminate the need for constant DNS requests to frequently visited sites. This should do it manually;

ipconfig /flushdns

Are you on Road Runner or Comcast cable?

I've had horrible problems with their DNS's in the past. I'm a RR customer now.

I use the IP I get from them via DHCP, but I use fixed DNS addresses from Open DNS, 208.67.222.222,
208.67.220.220.

What version of windows are you using?

If it is XP you can do the following to start the DNS client

1) Click Start
2) Click RUN
3) Type services.msc in the text box
4) Click OK or hit Enter
5) Scroll down to DNS Client and double click it
6) Select General tab and select Startup type: Automatic
7) Click Apply
7) Finally at Service Status Click Start (if it is stopped)

It is not necessarily needed, and if it is stopped you may not need to flush the cache as there won't be any. But starting it and flushing it can't hurt anything.

it's a personal computer at home

ok, i'll try that tenchiro

Edit: That didnt work. Still cant view pages. It was stopped though.

yeah, ping google.com worked fine.

So it isn't a DNS issue then; and you switched browsers so it wouldn't be a internet cache issue... Are you running any firewall software like Zonealarm or Norton Internet Security?

Also, try this. In the address bar of your browser enter http://207.71.27.117/ and see if you can get around the site that way.

EDIT - That is strange homebrewtalk.com resolves to that IP, but entering the IP into the browser gets you a guide to San Marcos... Must be on a shared server.
