Buy a bottle brush. Never use soap on your bottles. Beer is sugar water. hot water dissolves the sugar by itself. You can soak in a sanitizing solution afterward (bleach water, iodophor, or Star San).

Same goes for using the dishwasher...no soap.

Bottle brush is your best bet, as well as a faucet-mounted bottle washer. If you want to go bigtime a nice drill bit brush blows everything else away. Without the brush, hot water and pressure would be enough for most non-filthy bottles. If there is no visible sediment that has dried into crusties, a good soak, shake, rinse would do if proper cleaning equipment were missing.

A dishwasher won't clean the bottles - the water's not going to be able to make it all the way into each bottle. The best thing to do is to make sure you clean them out as soon as you are done drinking - makes life a LOT easier.
