Hydrometer reading after pitching?

So I was in a hurry and had to leave. So I pitched (US-05) and left without taking a hydrometer reading. That was exactly 1.5 hours ago. Any reason I couldn't take one now? And if I overshot my gravity can I still add water? Thanks.

Sure, you can take one now if you want. Just make sure you sanitize the wine thief or turkey baster and take out the sample.
