Preferably FREE, but discussion of fee based services that are worth it are certainly relevant!

The Nowhere man channel with NB's Brewing TV is pretty awesome.

Crackle, Midnight pulp, Popcorn movies, etc have an endless barrage of free movie choices, from reasonably mainstream to obscure.

Netflix at 7.99/mo is awesome, and amazon at 6.50/mo mediocre are both good enough deals.

The Roku search option makes finding anything easy.

VUDU and Amazon both offer $5 credits for signing up, so I watched almost all of season 3 of TWD for free and finished it up for $6 or so.

All still way cheaper than cable.

History, smithsonian, discovery, travel, etc. are all well represented...

I am planning to cut my cable. Got fios which is nice but we don't watch most of the channels, it seems every month I'm paying more for nuthin but poop. I bout an antenna and will try to install b4 the first of the year. I have a blueray player that already has wireless capabilities, Netflix, my kids watch it more than cable. I am trying the free amazon prime right now. Its OK but even if I get both I'm gonna save a boatload of money. I have seen the roku but I figured I could already get stuff thru the blueray. Might look into it closer tho.

Northern Brewer's Brewing TV episode with John Palmer brewing his "Shire oaked brown ale" was very interesting. Toasted his oats, showed his technique. Nice!

Bikini Bloodbath Car Wash on Midnight Pulp Was fairly bad, lol, but had enough awesomeness to pull it through.

The faculty of the school are all ex GI joe characters, including "Community College Commander" Who still accents his "S"s and wears a blue cowl.

best scene is when the traumatized co-eds accidentally contact a serial killer that blond chick managed to kill several years before though a wiji board. Worth watching at least to that point.

do a search online for justin.tv and you can add the channel to your roku-... i found it very handy @ times. the clarity isn't great and you'll have to do quite a bit of sifting to find something you like (w/ no garuntee it will be there tomorrow). but when you're lucky you can watch marathons of horror, storage wars, pawn stars, bbc top gear (that one is always on), swamp people, family guy, south park, etc. like i said it's not depnable but there's some great stuff on there in marathon form.

CD thanks for starting a thread, we just got an ROKU, signed up for Amazon prime and are about to the Time Warner to "go pound salt" .I'll be watching closely and hopefully posting some helpful information. Thanks again.

Have you watched Bikini Bloodbath Christmas yet? How is it?

+1 on Justin Tv, that's actually why I bought a roku to begin with, since almost nightly I was sitting watching Jtv streams on my laptop while my tv was sitting across the room from me gathering dust. You can find just about anything on Justin, including shows like Walking Dead, while it's airing.

I've got a Hell's kitchen marathon running in the background while I screw today.

Nowhere tv has a lot of interesting channels of programming, including the complete run of The Red Green Show (all 15 season.)

Lol, it is literally THE SAME MOVIE. Slight changes to circumstances and characters, but with almost word for word the same script. I think this is done intentionally. It ends up with lines like "I smell onions" clearly from the hot tub scene from the previous movie, but nowhere near a hot tub or an onion in the x-mas one.

Different enough to be worth a view, but far from epic.

+1 to nowhereman. The PBS world streaming is awesome, and I hear he will have live streaming of every NCAA tournament game.

So, yeah, we're thinking of ditching our 'cable' too. It's fios. Fine service and all. It works. But it's so much junk. We don't watch most of the channels. What channels we do watch, we don't watch most of what's on them. Hell, there's days I don't even turn on the TV. When my wife does, sometimes it's just as background noise. Or to watch DVR. We don't watch a lot of shows as they air. Screw that. Commercials.

So who else does this Netflix, Hulu, Roku stuff? Talk!

You like when he shouts, "You donkey!", don't you?

.....I was ready to reply but read your last 2 lines, lol.

OH WELL!

I'll tell you what you weren't expecting my friend.

As I peruse the ENDLESS expanse of on-demand stuff on roku and netflix, what is one of the FEW things I have "favorite"d?

PBS world, which streams live their broadcast. It is the least on-demand channel possible. What is on it? I DON'T KNOW!!!! Might be elephants or cooking, or cancer research.

I started a thread about "ON-DEMAND" being the death of creativity...(long ago).

I remember buying "albums" while my friends were buying singles.

My FAVORITE "content" were tracks that were #13 or 14 on the album. Stuff that was never a single.

Stuff my friends were like "what??" never heard that on the radio!

No **** retard. And you missed out.

The random KET (PBS) or discovery channel show about something that I would never have selected On DEMAND, turned out to be life changing.

That is going away, as the album did, for better or worse.

Pub-D-hub has some cool stuff. Other than that, any good ones have been mentioned. Amazon is cool if you have prime. It's a little more content avail. Mostly watch Nowhere man, Hulu for current nighttime series, and amazon for movies. Else over-the-air TV ( still free)

I got records, man. Records. They spin round, like a record, baby.

Yea.. I am so sick of TV any more. There is no creativity at all. Hundreds of channells with nuttin but crud. Its like all they do is load up programming with a shotgun and see what sticks. Even most of the movies that are coming out are just remakes of older movies. And when one movie that is original makes money they make as many as they can of the same until people get tired of it and starts losing money.

I stream Hulu Plus through the Roku box and it's a giant pile of s___! Super slow loading Hulu. Really, really bad layout. Freezes up sometimes. I hate it, but some of the newer shows on there keep me coming back only to curse it out. We watch the Daily Show, Parks and Rec and a couple others through there but it's hardly worth it.

Other than that I only use Netflix and I have Amazon Prime which I just realized gets me some free movies so that's nice.

Yeah, HULU BLOWS Big Time.

Canceled a free trial on the Hulu Plus the very first day.

Nothing touches Netflix, but the Roku rounds it out nicely with more free movie selection and TONS more documentaries, special interest, news, etc.

So, Midnight pulp has, "Women's Blood Bath Wrestling"

The Hottest Women of Horror in Blood-Soaked Hand-to-Hand Combat! Featuring some of the most gorgeous actresses in the underground horror scene, Women's Blood Bath Wrestling is a free-for-all of epic, plasmic proportions! See them hold, kick, slap and grapple each other right into a giant pool of blood until they are all completely soaked in sin!

LOL, I'm almost tempted....It's probably like jello wrestling but with red colored karo syrup....

Roku , I agree . Pretty good deal really . Netflix gets me some good things to watch on it like Wilfred , Weeds and Sons of Anarchy plus all them re runs of South Park , Futurama etc.

Crackle is pretty effing cool.

Underworld 1 and 2 (I am a SUCKER for Kate in latex)
District 9 is a must see classic

Midnight Pulp is pretty great.

Ditched cable in September and never looked back. Imagine all of the time saved not watching filler crap and commercials. One problem, all of the conspiracy documentaries have me hoarding water, gas, cigs and ammo. Oh yeah, don't forget the Playboys!

Where the dead go to die .... sick vial disgusting trash that you should be ashamed of your self for recommending . Most disturbing animated show I have ever seen .

I love it !

Like RIGHT???????

Like an effing car wreck where someone is raping all of the survivors. Not sure I recommended it, maybe warned people.;)

You have piqued my interest. And I only watched Midnight Pulp for the tits.

Oh the tits are nice, (check nowhereporn channel if that is what you seek) gotta give props to MP's CHEESY section......(wink wink nudge nudge)

WTDGTD is so messed up, it is almost unwatchable. The end is awesome, but can you survive the 90 minutes of senseless degredation and humiliation, murder and torture leading up to it? The tits are simulated.

The Crackle channel has really caught my attention of late.

I missed some parts so I just had to watch it again and my cousin watched also . I think I need to take a long hot shower and try to wash this off if I can get out of this slobbering crying fetal position . I feel so dirty . Best effin' show ever , in a effing your mother sort of way .

We are about to nix TW cable, we have been test driving the Roku. I have to say I'm surprised, I don't think I will miss cable.

Sorry to further derail your thread CD, but I have a technical question about my streaming picture quality. We have one Roku 2XD and have 2 Samsung TV's, a 1080p and a 720p. I have tried the Roku on bith units and have found a vast difference in picture quality.

My issue is that the picture quality on the 720p is far more appealing to the eye. It is difficult to describe but the streaming picture on the 1080p unit looks like a home video. The picture (for the lack of better terms) looks too sharp, color and contrast a way off, no warmth to the picture. We have the same issue with dvds on the 1080p. As for the HD feed from the cable on the same TV looks great.

I have tried changing the TVs' "Mode" with little change in the 4 settings. I'm betting this should be an easy fix but I have searched the streaming forum(s) and found nothing.

Roku picture quality varies wildly, depending on what you are watching. Different vids form the same site can be very different quality. I guess you are saying that you are watching the same things in order to get a good comparison. I would say that it is a tv problem, not a roku problem. You are OT!lol. The bizarre movie was derailing, you might have brought it back!;)

We canceled Dish and are trying the Roku now. Seems great, if you have the speed...

Our issue is DSL speed. We live just outside the city and NO availability for cable. Cable TV service lines don't even run down our road. So our Internet options are limited. 5Mbps DSL or Over-The-Air Amplex Internet, Hughesnet, Dishnet, Verizon Home Extreme. The last three are expensive and have monthly usage limits. That's a no-go as the wife works from home.

Amplex wants a commitment before they will come test their signal. If it works they expect you to keep it. However that may only be 3Mbps or 7, its a crapshoot.

To bring the train sort of back on the tracks- do you guys see Huluplus loading issues even with higher download speeds?

bad67z;
When I was looking for a Roku I read some stuff about picture quality and the 1080 p thing . Not sure what they said but there was a reason for it and maybe was the type of connection to the TV as in HDMI or VGA .

If it was not for some real good shows I like to watch on cable i.e. Breaking Bad, South Park , Merlin , history channel , FoxNews , 2 Broke Girls , How I met your mother and the big bang theory I would dump cable TV for this .

Almost everything you mentioned is either on Hulu or broadcast TV.

Dump cable- its the rite thing to do!

I do not know about huluplus but I am on 3Mbps cable the slowest Cox has I think and then over my WiFi to roku which of course is even slower by far and I get great streams . Picture quality differs from flic to flic but that is the video quality . Most look quite good. I am on HDMI 1080p

Thanks- I must have an issue with my DSL service- I had an old Lynksis wireless N router and just switched to the new fancy pants router, same result- lots of interrupted streams and buffering issues. That's even when only 1 device (Roku) is actively using the Internet. According to ping tests I have 5Mbps.
