So I picked up a keg yesterday and the guy who sold it to me said it was an aluminum keg. However, it looks identical to this other keg I picked up (and am about to return) that was said to be stainless steel. Each of the two kegs look to be made of the same kind of metal. Both are the standard Anheuser-Busch stamped Sankey kegs. How can I tell?

Most SS kegs won't react to a magnet either. AL is way to soft to use as a keg. Those things are beat up pretty badly and it just won't stand up for a prolonged period of time. It's SS don't worry about it.

You could always scrub the outside of it with steel wool. If the finish comes off, its Al.
