I've seen the other styles of yeast from Safale discussed on these boards, but not this one so much.

I'm getting ready to brew an English Pub Ale and have opted to use this yeast (the first dry I've used in ages).

O-pines?

I don't think you will see the S04 as much as the others because it has uniquely English characteristics. I've used it a few times, and have some in the fridge.
As Torben said, Great stuff. Should be ideally suited to your brew.

-a.

Maybe I've misused it but I used it for a couple of my batches so far, both light American ale and an IPA. From what I read, it would be similar to S56, but not quite as neutral. Technically it is an English so ESBs and such would do well.

I use it for english IPA's, Browns, Bitters, etc. and love it. It ferments fast then floc's out fast and clear. Medium attenuation, which leaves some residual sweetness.

I brewed the Pub ale today.

Steeped 1/4# honey malt, 1/4# 90L Crystal, 1/2# 2-Row, 1/8# Torrified Wheat, 1/4# Aromatic Malt(?) all for 15 minutes at 155*F.

Added 7# Pale LME, boiled for 60 minutes.

3/4 oz First Gold for 60 min
1/4 oz First Gold for 15
1 oz Fuggles for 5

Ice Bath cool down (15 minutes)

Pitched S-04 directly into wort

I let you all know how it tastes when I rack to secondary.

just sampled a bottle from my last batch using this yeast, this is one of my best beers, not sure if its cause of the yeast, more grain (partial mash) than usual, or just a good balance. realy easy recipe...

for 23 l batch

4.4 lme
3 lb 2-row
1/2 caramel 60l
1/2 carafoam(dextrine malt)

1 oz target 60 mins
1 oz target 5 mins
1/2 oz target dry hop in secondary

ive just re pitched this yeast into a barleywine well see...

Just racked to secondary. Active ferment for about 48 hours, then quick drop off. Nice color and taste. A bit raw but I can see and taste that this is going to be a good beer. Half will go into a Pig, the other half in bottles.

It's the only yeast that I'll use on my Imperial Stout.

This was my first beer to score over 40 in a comp. It was my best score untill my Sloppyknickers English Barleywine scored 45.
It may have done as well with a different yeast but if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I'm using it for caramel cream ale right now... had no access to liquid yeast. We'll see how it turns out.

I pitched mine with the English Ale 04 as well...three weeks ago. It's cold conditioning in a keg right now and getting bottled tomorrow...

We'll have to compare notes.
