My light ale has been fermenting for exactly one week today. I decided to go and check the gravity today to see if it was time to move it to a secondary. When I opened the lid, there is a whole whole lot of sudsy stuff on top of the liquid... which I have certainly seen before. However... when I dug down to get a liquid sample, the bubbles are really SLUDGE.. like thick, gooey, off white gloop... stuff you would expect to find in the BOTTOM of the fermenter.
I tasted the beer and it does not have any weird off flavors... is this normal? I have brewed a LOT of beer in the past and never seen anything like this.
