I used Cluster hops for the first time in a light lager. There is a bit of grapefruit in the aftertaste. I know some hops have a grapefruit taste, but was not aware cluster did.

This turned out to be a light, refreshing brew. A 3 gallon keg of it will be going to Cinco De Mayo with us.

I've used Cluster a few times in Classic American Pilsners, and I wouldn't have come up with "grapefruit" as a descriptor. But Cluster is a very old hop variety (at least by US standards), so maybe there is more variation in flavor profile.

I know Cluster is an older Am. version and traditionally used in lagers. That being said, I like to put an ounce in my IPA's. Gives a nice mild aroma of black currants. As for grapefruit aroma/flavors I wouldn't know since when I've used it it's surrounded by grapefruitie hops.

Schlante,
Phillip
