could any one help me under stand how to use an air lock with my fermentation barrel do i need to put water into it like i do for me mead ?

ah thank you so wat dose the air lock actaly acheave as you can tell i am very green at this lol

thanks for that
ah cool if i didn't put the water in to start with for the ale will this efect it in any way ?

Nah, it should be outgassing enough CO2 that oxygen didn't have room to cause damage. Well, I guess that depends how long you let it sit without water in the airlock though...

Well did the airlock bubble since you added water to it? If so, then it was still producing enough CO2 that you probably don't have to worry.
