Just finished mashing Bobby_M's barley wine/partigyle. 10 gallon cooler couldn't cut it so I turned my BK into a direct fired mash tun.

Lost what would have been possibly 5* in an hour if I wasn't on top of it, each time it dropped a degree I lit the burner on full and did some light stirring. No false bottom, no recirculation, just stirring. Fired it back up for mash out, again light stirring. No problems.

I think with how much heat I didn't lose I'm going to put a sleeping bag over it and walk away for an hour.
