Ever noticed a 6.5 gallon carboy holds a little over 7 gallons?

Couple that with trying to mark your X gallon carboy using a gallon jug of water that really isn't a gallon either. One of my better bottles looks like aXX because I ended up marking it twice to get it right.

I use a graduated 4 quart pitcher from walmart to do all my marking...

If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing
Using a scale to weigh the water is the most accurate way.

I did this....28 times to get to 7 gallons....then siphoned water out into store-marked 5 gallon paint buckets and got exactly 7 gallons. I'm pretty sure it's 7 gallons.

Wow I need to re mark my carboy. I filled mine to the tops and siphoned 1.5 gallons out.

Are sure that measuring pitcher wasn't in litres coming from Walmart?
