Nope, I'm sure not Dan Brown
I'm just a fool riddle clown
Ajdelange played this one quite well
Now it's around Boydster's riddle my mind does dwell

At first I thought your triangle was too right,
But then no 3s did I sight,
So something more tricky... perhaps in base 3?
But to convert I did say and then I could see,
Maths problem no more, you let language in the door.
See how many there are and you will be done,
the last one standing will always have won
:D

I may misunderstand your answer, and if so please forgive.
This one is base ten, sure as I live.

As one further clue, I'll concede the next line
Of the sequence I started. Guess the next - is that fine?

312211

So what's next, do you think?
I say the numbers, with a wink.

I think I confused with the language I used,
I only thought 3 as just 1, 2 I did see,
then thought perhaps to be clear to be seen,
I might need to convert to it to one of base 10. (stretch...)
But when I transcribed, I swallowed my pride (?)
for as I was speaking, the answer was leaking (this is getting bad!)
and so after your last, I'll finish this fast,
1 three, 1 one, 2 two(s), 2 one(s)
13112221 :D

This riddle thread has gone beyond WOW!

To keep this rolling I will post from the net:

There is a party of 100 high-powered politicians. All of them are either honest or liars. You walk in knowing two things:

- At least one of them is honest.
- If you take any two politicians, at least one of them is a liar.

From this information, can you know how many are liars and how many are honest? and if you can, how?

Not likely

- If you take any two politicians, at least one of them is a liar.

From this information, can you know how many are liars and how many are honest? and if you can, how?

If there are n liars the probability that a randomly selected politician is truthfull is (100 - n)/100. The probability that a second selected politician is also truthful is (99 - n)/99. Given that the two selections are independent the probability that both are truthful is (100 - n)*(99 - n)/(100*99). As at least one is always a liar the probability of this event is 0. Thus (100 - n)*(99 - n) = 0 which is satisfied if n = 99 or 100. But we know (though we are skeptical) that at least one is honest and that knocks out n = 100 as the acceptable solution.

Classic 'sampling without replacement' problem.

We really need to stop doing math problems with Ajdelange about :D
Your up next if there was any doubt :D

AJ has a mind decidedly stout
With numbers and math, some of us get lost at no doubt

I hope I don't sound like a bad token.
AJ is to this thread is a golden spiral spoken
Let me help the man, who flattered me as Dan Brown
It was a very nice complement spoken to my Dasher Brown.

Here is one from way back when
I don't remember if I ansewered it .. could have left me stipend (it rhymed - sort of).

If I may, this one come’s from a Passedpawn play
I was actually looking for something else on this day

Although the good PP plays it down
His mind is sharp and his wit's astound
I gotta say the Marine in him
Wins, and wins.. in my heart I happily grin

He is something else. But will never let on. No need to prove himself.

From the PP treasurer box.. (sorry Pappy, can't help but exploit you occasionally :) )
Molly was a brewer's wife, as faithful as the sun,
Brewer Bob, an abusive man, was Molly's mean husband.

Brewer Bob used black clay jugs to measure his brewing water,
and Bob demanded precision during mash and boil and lauter.

One day Bob sent poor Molly to the well across the moor,
"Lower down these jugs, my wife, and bring back exactly four."

Four gallons seemed a simple task, and Molly left with glee,
until she saw the jugs she took held exactly five and three.

5 gallons rich holds one jug, the other 3 gallons poor,
How will Molly return to Bob with exactly four?

She first fills the 5 gallon jug, then empties it into the 3 gallon jug, leaving 2 gallons in the first jug. She then dumps the 3 gallons out, and pours the 2 gallons left behind in the 5 gallon jug into the 3 gallon jug.

Again, she lowers the 5 gallon jug down into the well and fills it once more. She tops off the 3 gallon jug and then dumps it, leaving exactly 4 gallons in the large 5 gallon jug to bring home to her abusive husband.

Edit:
I would have taken the time to make this rhyme,
But my daughter hit submit too soon.
At 1 year old, sometimes I find
Her help is not helpful. She tries though. Full moon??

Fill the 3 gallon and pour into the 5, fill the 3 again and pour I to the 5 til its full. Dump the 5 and pour the remaining gallon from the 3 into the 5 and fill the 3 one last time, pour into the 5 to make 4 gallons.

As many times as I figured out this riddle
Each and every time was a very hard fiddle
To me it's not an answer that appears even after you know it
Each time played your mind needs to show it
JrunkleJon you got this one right
And now it's time for you to play a riddle tonight!:tank:

There is now 1,589 post in this thread and I'm foolishly going to ask the same first question, possibly different wording-- but the same question as the first post.

9 balls that each look exactly the same
One weighs different from the others... Heavier or lighter it does not matter
You have a balancing scale. Think of the pictures often used for The Hall of Justice scale

I'll give you a hint. You can put four and four on the scale . It's not going to get you the answer. There are to many vaiables with that idea.. Just know it only takes two measuring's to answer the question.

This riddle is decided in two moves. Every time :D.

I've heard a variation on this one but not sure if you guys have posted it yet so sorry if that's the case.

Same concept but you have to identify if the odd ball is heavier or lighter. You have 12 balls and 3 uses of the scale.

It's the heavy one

It works with a light one too
For this riddle you're picking
One weighs more than the rest
With this knowledge, do your best.

Oops I was in the can

takes only two tries to answer my man

this question could vey well be my bastard hour

Nobody made me work so hard in the answer I devour

You, Sideways, I respect you for trying

But three weighing's? In that I'm not buying

Let's just go with the heavy one

To be honest man, it don't matter son

Heavy or light is what you need to know

For this riddle.. heavy is the right soul

And that will answer the question you've grown

Think in terms of not odds evenly sewn

But maybe yet yes, there is an easy flow

You think, what if the word three were simple

Then my friend I'd answer you true.

It takes some threes which will be separated in two

Leaves three more, tween me and you

which we will divide 9, nearly into two, and eventually one...

Stay with me son, cause this is truly a good one

Split the 9 in three, weigh two bulks of them and you will see....

Like all riddles that drive your head nuts

The answer is simple unless you let your mind think you're nuts.

Look at it this way

Of the nine take six

Put three on each side of the scale

that's an even mix..

The rest just figure out

No time limit here.. If that helps

Do it man.. I know you can!

I'm not so good with word riddles so I have no idea what you just said :) but there's a solution to the riddle I presented

I will take my turn,
with promises its not so tough your brains will burn

We all know you can riddle truth from among lies,
so, tell me, what gets wetter as it dries?

I'll guess at a water/alcohol solution. The more water is removed (the drier the solution becomes) the better wetting agent it is.

Wow, a deeply thought out solution,
though not quite what I was going for as a resolution.
The beauty of riddles is that they will make you flip your lid
yet most of the time can be answered by a kid

I believe the answer is a towel. As you dry things with it, it gets wetter.
Or gets wetter as it dries.

You must have been looking at the object on the back of my bathroom door,
that is exactly the answer I was looking for.

Now, if you havent already you will soon learn,
the prize for a correct answer is that it is your turn.

Sideways, no need to apologize
Not on this thread please do realize
It's got legs and body been around a bit
Nobody here will give you sh|t
Cause what's good about this thread
Camaraderie and brains here are not dead
I think your riddle asked I saw with blind eyes
You good sir kicked it up a bit
Not 9 but twelve balls do sit
No longer nine upon we dwell
Is two an answer for twelve as as we'll?
I thought it was but can't figure it out
I call for an answering shout
AJ, You here today ?
I'm sure this can be done with two but forgot my way

6:6
3:3
1:1
Odd out, the one
=3 times for sure

5:5
They even out
1 vs 1 shows the answer
Unlikely chance

Or 5:5
One side heavier
2:2
If equal

3:3
Heavy side = split it in two
Unequal
3:3 again
Same road
Another weighing

Man, there was a time I once thought
I knew the riddle two the twelve balls
With an answer of two

But apparently wrong,
between me and you
If you do know how to make the three a two
Please do share it. Not tween me and you

This is the Riddle Thread
Sometimes keeps me out of bed

I will do my best to carry on. I am no artist of rhyme or song. I'll attempt to clear the cobwebs from my brain and pose this riddle for those who wish to see. Can anyone find the answer within range? "Smell me, buy me, and deliver me.
I won't change."

What am I?

The approach for the 9 ball problem was to divide into 3 groups and compare 2 using 0ne weighing. If we know whether the odd ball is heavier or lighter than the others then we immediately know which of the three groups contains the odd ball. If we don't then it takes another weighing to determine whether it is heavier or lighter. IOW it takes two weighings to determine whether the odd ball is heavier or lighter and localize it to one of three groups. At this point we have 3 balls one of which is known to be either heavier or lighter than the others and we can, with one additional weighing, using the same technique of subdividing into three identical groups, identify it.

If the number of balls is greater then we use the same approach: divide into three equal groups and use two weighings to find the group with the odd ball and determine whether it is heavier or lighter than the others. After those two weighings we have 4 balls one of which is known to be heavier or lighter than the others and the problem becomes "How many weighings are required to find the odd ball in 4 given that you know it is heavier or lighter than the others?" I don't see how you can do it with one so I believe the answer is 2 for a total of 4: one to determine heavier or lighter and 1 for each stage of subdivision necessary to get to 1 ball per pan.

You won't change, but I was given some change for a drink
And then you were there, I think
Then I dropped you while holding my cup

I can now see a wise you be. Although we all try in vain your answer was indeed sane as the answer was sent scent or cent.

Often talked of, never seen,
Ever coming, never been,
Daily looked for, never here,
Still approaching, coming near.
Thousands for it's visit wait
But alas for their fate,
Tho' they expect me to appear,
They will never find me here.

Tomorrow or future they could be the opposite of forsaken
I'll take the first two answers they're as perfect as bacon

Arg. Ignore my above short post
I accidentally hit the reply button to the riddle I'd boast

Il try again later alligator, I'm not mutton
None of that read well
Even with the edit button

Fail. Not said very well

The only riddle here is my dry well
I don't know what happened maybe I'm under a spell

Truly this is not a riddle
There is no reason to bring out the fiddle

Carry on :)
