I just pitched a high-gravity IPA onto a yeast cake from an existing batch and man holy cow this is awesome! I also added yeast energizer. I swear on my life I actually started seeing activity within 30 minutes! It's been 1 hour now and I'm seeing steady bubbles in the airlock. This is amazing. I will definelty be using this technique fromm here on out. Anyone know of any possible disadvantages to pitching on top of a yeast cake?

Disadvantages include being woken up at 2 a.m. by the lid blowing off, mopping ceiling, cabinets, floor, etc. at 2 a.m. Installing blowoff at 2:30. Re-mopping in the morning.

Take the airlock off and put a blowoff tube on!
